Corriente Cattle
We have sixty solid colored corriente cows. Our
bulls are solid blacks, as are 50% of the offspring. Our calves are always
gentle and easy
to handle. If they are not, they are culled to the sale barn. We always
have read- to-rope steers for sale. We can arrange delivery. Please feel
free to call us: 432-345-2625, or, drop an email to: Herbert.
More Information About Corriente Cattle
Corriente cattle are descended from Spanish cattle brought
to the Americas in the late 1400s. They are primarily used today as sport
cattle for rodeo events such as team roping and bulldogging, although some
breeders raise them for their meat, which is significantly leaner than
the meat from most modern beef cattle.
Corrientes are fairly small cattle, with cows averaging well
under 1,000 pounds. They are lean, athletic, and have long upcurving horns.
They are known as "easy keepers," as there is very little human intervention
required in their calving, and they eat significantly less than the big
beef cattle. Like the Texas longhorns (which some believe are decended
from Corrientes), they require less water and can live on sparse open range.
Corrientes are also known as accomplished escape artists, as they can leap
a standard sized barbed-wire fence and squeeze through fairly small openings.
The Corriente is known by several different names. In the United
States and in northern Mexico they are known as Corriente cattle. In other
parts of Mexico, they go by the name, Criollo or Chinampo cattle. They
are also closely related to two other breeds of cattle from the gulf coast
and Florida areas: the Pineywoods cattle and the Cracker of Florida.

Corrientes. Please feel free to give us a call or send us an email.
