About Alison Holmes
I was born in Kingston, Ontario, Canada. I moved from there as a youngster
to London, Ontario, Canada. I became interested in horses, and soon earned
money to purchase and support a horse of my own.
After I graduated from high school, I moved to the Vancouver Canada area
where I lived for about 15 years. I became involved with horses again, and
did a little showing and dressage training with my own and horses, and those
of my friends. Then, one day, I discovered dogs!
It all began with a lovely male australian shepherd. This association soon
led to acreage, sheep and ducks. I was even competing a little at that time.
Soon afterwards, I got a little speckled border collie. I started to do
more trialing and training. Eventually I owned numerous working Australian
shepherds, a gorgeous long-coated German shepherd, a bearded collie, and
a kelpie. Because no one else in the area had sheep, my place, out of necessity
grew into the local dog working facility. This meant that I got a lot of
exposure to many breeds and types of dogs.
I first met Herbert when he was in Canada judging a local dog trial. It
all went south from there, straight to Texas! Through the years, Herbert
and I have set up dog training facilities where we lived on the different
leased ranches. But,nothing was really established until we moved to Sanderson,
Texas and the family ranch. There we settled next to Herberts father, Harry,
and are helping with the operation of the home place. We raise dorper x
rambouillet sheep, boer cross goats and corriente cattle. In addition, we
have a kennel full of border collies! We train and trial all our own dogs,
and, take in dogs for training.
